Knox Home sleep studies services

A sleep study is an overnight study usually conducted to diagnose sleep apnoea; however, it can also be useful to diagnose a number of other sleep disorders such as insomnia, periodic limb movement of sleep and REM disorders. You can either sleep overnight in hospital and go home the next morning, or alternatively can have an unattended sleep study (i.e. at your own home). A laboratory study is usually required only in special circumstances.

A home sleep study is a very convenient way to study someone’s sleep pattern and has now become the standard method for diagnosing sleep apnoea. It is generally more comfortable as you sleep in your own bed instead of being in hospital overnight. There are different types of home sleep studies that vary in the number of channels monitored.

We offer the highest and most accurate level of unattended sleep studies (level 2 studies) through our state-of-the-art equipment and the latest software for analysis. You will be guided through the home sleep study setup through a qualified sleep scientist and the data will be analysed by a qualified sleep scientist. Finally our very experienced sleep physician will report your sleep study and send back to your referring practitioner in a timely manner (a sleep study usually takes between 2 to 4 weeks to be analysed and reported).

It is important to note that you do not necessarily need to see the sleep specialist prior to the sleep study if you qualify to have one through a set of criteria that indicate you have a high probability of having sleep apnoea. If your doctor thinks that you need a sleep study, please speak to your doctor to check if you qualify for a direct sleep study.

It is also important to highlight that you may or may not need to see the sleep specialist after your sleep study. This will be determined by your sleep study results and the discretion of your referring practitioner who will determine the need for this.
